Time for Back to School Activities!

Can you believe that it is almost time for school again?  Where did the summer go?

Here are a few things to get you back in the groove.

• The school supply list is up on the website with a link at the top of the home page.
• If you were wondering what Title I was, we now have a link that takes you to this information!
• "Back to School Night" is currently planned for August 25 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Join us to learn more about the PTA (yes, we are an awesome bunch and would love to have more parents and teachers join) and will have a few giveaways if you sign up (hint, hint) that night.  Also, a member from BJ's Wholesale will be on hand to offer discount memberships to our families.
• We will be doing away with the Maclary Directory this year due to some concerns regarding addresses and phone numbers being distributed.  We want to keep our kids SAFE!  So, with that being said, please sign up for our email distribution list on the website.  This will be our main source of communication unless it comes in print format from the school.  We would like to focus on being a GREEN school!
• If you have any questions, please feel free to email the PTA at maclarypta@gmail.com and someone will get back to you as soon as they can.

Thanks again to our past PTA officers and welcome to our new officers.  We look forward to having a record number of people join us this year.  Remember ... this isn't a full-time commitment.  Even if you can help out for an hour during one event this school year, you will make a huge impact at Maclary!

Notice for Wednesday, February 10

SCHOOLS CLOSED, OFFICES OPEN 2 HOURS LATE

All schools and offices in the Christina School District will be closed on Wednesday, February 10 due to inclement weather conditions. Preschool Programs, Parents as Teachers Stay and Play, Continuing Education Classes and Adult Education Classes are also canceled.

REMINDER:  At this time, preschool, elementary and middle schools are scheduled to be closed on Thursday, February 11. High Schools are scheduled to be in session on Thursday, February 11. All schools are scheduled to be closed on Friday, February 12 and Monday, February 15. The Maclary International Festival is canceled for this evening and will be rescheduled for a future date. We will update the website as soon as we have a confirmed day for this exciting event!

Afternoon Kindergarten and Preschool are Canceled, Schools to Dismiss 30 Minutes Early

Afternoon Preschool and Kindergarten classes are canceled and all schools will dismiss 30 minutes early. Childcare programs will be closing 1 hour early. Childcare parents should pick up children no later than 4:30 p.m.


All activities for the afternoon and evening of Friday, February 5th are canceled and all activities scheduled for Saturday, February 6th are canceled.

February 2010 - Important Information for February 2

Welcome to February!

• Due to the chance of snow, tonight's PTA Meeting (February 2) is being moved to Thursday, February 4 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. in the Library.  Childcare will be provided and all are invited!  We are looking for new faces to help keep our PTA as strong as it has been!
• It's not too late to get involved with the "Christina Plan for Excellence", our Strategic Plan for 2010 - 2013.  Click here for more details on how to get involved.
• Grotto Pizza Family Night is from 5 - 9 p.m. on Monday, February 8.  Please remember to print the flyer from the Maclary website and bring it with you!  Grotto's will not be handing out flyers!  Good for eat in or take out.
• Our International Festival is on Wednesday, February 10 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Come join us for an exciting night of education, dance, fun and games!

Holiday Concert Help Needed!!!

Parents! We need large empty cans, such as a tomato juice can, large (28 oz.) tomato can, or coffee can, 1 per second grader, to make drums. Second graders are singing a song for their Holiday Concert in which they will play them. Drums will be made in Art class. We need cans by Monday of next week (Dec. 7). Cans should be empty, clean, and have both ends removed. Drop them off to the Art Room or have your child do so. Thanks for your help!

November News and Updates

Remember to check the website for the most current news and information!

• H1N1 vaccinations will be administered on Friday, November 20.  All children NOT receiving a vaccination will be given a wristband.  Even though Kindergarten is scheduled off that day, if you would like to bring your child in for the vaccination, please bring them in any time between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.  You will NOT need to wait in line.
• We have a giving tree set up in the lobby to benefit the Emmaus House.  Please pick an ornamanet and help out a child in need this holiday season.
• We are currently holding a food drive to support the Food Bank of Delaware's Backpack Program.  This program provides food to at-need children for weekends and holidays when school is not in session.  Check out the school website for a complete list of items needed.
• Our Second Grade has received a tree to decorate at Longwood Gardens.  If you are up there, please look for the Maclary Elementary School tree!  Congratulations!
• The holiday concerts this year will be held on December 21st in two sessions.  The first one is at 6:30 p.m. for Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades.  The second one is at 7:30 p.m. for 3rd, 4th and 5th grades.  All are welcome!

Hi everyone!

The Maclary PTA is going to be trying some new things to keep you posted on events that are happening in and around our school this year.

Most of you know that we have a website (http://www.maclaryelementary.org/); but we will now be trying out a "blog" to keep you informed of important events.
